KNUTSFORD Conservative Club is set to close its doors for good amid reports that the club has run out of cash.

Last week it was reported that the club, based in the building at the junction of Manchester Road and Northwich Road, could face closure by Christmas if it did not secure funds.

A source this week told the Guardian that this is the case and members have been told of the committee’s decision.

The club is a separate organisation to MP George Osborne’s Tatton Conservative office which also operates from the same building and will not be affected in any way by the closure of the club.

It runs a host of teams in the local sporting leagues, including two bowling teams in the Knutsford Friday League, two in the Knutsford and District ladies bowling league, three teams in the Knutsford Bowling League, two teams in the Knutsford and District snooker league, a pool team plus a team in the Mobberley Dominoes League.

The building itself, which includes a members bar, is owned by Monckton Properties Ltd – the firm run by the Brooks family.

The Conservative Club was unavailable for comment at the time the Guardian went to press, but Henry Brooks, owner of Monckton Properties, told the Guardian the company would be sad to see the club close.

“Monckton Properties would be very sad to see the club go,” Henry said.

“We have made – and will continue – to offer support to the club.”
