Rogue traders cooking up doorstep scam
3:20pm Sunday 26th August 2012 in News
ROGUE traders have been targeting Knutsford in a cookware scam.
Salesmen claiming to be from a European country have been knocking on doors saying they have been to a trade show at the Birmingham NEC Arena and want to sell off remaining stock.
A Cheshire East Council spokesman said: “The goods appear well presented and are labelled ‘St Moritz’.
“Residents have been told they are Swiss made when, in fact, they are made in China. The caller also allows people to pay by credit card with a card reader and asks for the amount to be paid in Euros.
“Residents have paid as much as £1,500 for goods when the true value will be considerably less.
“Reputable traders do not trade in this way and if you are offered such goods, please contact the citizens advice consumer helpline on 08454 04 05 06.”
