Man arrested on suspicion of murder after body found in Cranage fire

A 48-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found in a house in Cranage.

Firefighters and police were called to an address in Byley Lane just before 11am today, Thursday, following reports of a fire in the garage.

When officers made a search of the home a body was found. Formal identification has yet to take place.

A 48-year-old man from Hale, Greater Manchester, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Fire crews from Holmes Chapel and Northwich attended the scene.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews discovered a car alight within the garage and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"The police were requested to attend as firefighters at the scene suspected this to be arson.

"The property was checked for fire spread which had not entered the property."

Byley Lane remains closed both ways with slow moving traffic between Crescent Road and Knutsford Road, near the turn for Cranage Hall.
