Ridding the town of rubbish
11:20am Thursday 9th August 2012 in News
VOLUNTEERS and town councillors helped to rid the town of rubbish with a litter pick recently.
Knutsford Town Council and the Friends of the Moor got together to hold the litter pick.
The event was managed by Clr Peter Coan and supported by town mayor, Clr Vivien Davies and Clr Stewart Gardiner, who is also chairman of the Friends of the Moor.
Clr Coan said: “It is surprising in a town as beautiful as Knutsford that people feel it is acceptable to litter the streets.
“I’d like to make a plea to people think about what they are doing and either use the litter bins or take their rubbish home.
“It is wonderful to have the support from the community but you have to question whether it should be necessary.”
Clr Davies added: “The council has met with colleagues from other towns in Cheshire with a view to deciding whether it may be possible to formalise the approach to litter picking so that we can keep on top of the problem and seek to discourage the build-up of litter.
“We hope to discuss this matter at the next environment committee meeting.”
Anyone wishing to take an interest or develop their own litter picking scheme should contact the town clerk on 01565 653929.
