UNITED Utilties has said chlorine levels were 'higher than normal' in Knutsford's water supply on Tuesday morning.
Townsfolk contacted the Guardian and made comments on social network site Twitter after noticing the smell and taste of the water had changed.
On Twitter @Knutsford_admi said: “It was the smell of bleach in the bath water too – very strange. Told the water company who are investigating.”
King Street business House added: “Does anyone else’s water taste weird in Knutsford?”
Fellow Twitter user @Sally_AnneR agreed.
“The smell emanating from the bath water reminded of being in a swimming pool this morning,” she said.
Tatton Brewery in Longridge said it could smell a difference but it wasn’t affecting its brewing process.
“Mains water definitely has a detergent/perfume aroma. Our brewing liquor is clear, fortunately.”
A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “Chlorine levels were slightly higher than usual and, although not everyone would have noticed the difference, some people’s noses are more sensitive than others.
"We’re sorry if this caused a nuisance, and we’ve adjusted the chlorine level now.”
