A TRADITION returned to Plumley when Emily Lawton was crowned rose queen for the village’s fun day.

Emily, a pupil at Lower Peover Primary School, was the first to be crowned since 2009 after organisers decided to bring back the role.

The day began with a sea of colour at midday with the first procession around the village in 10 years, led by town crier David Skafe and marching band Mereside Brass.

Olympic Rainbows followed, each one wearing a colour of the Olympic rings. There was even an Olympic Princess Emma Hollywood with her Olympic crownbearer Thomas Freeman and crownbearer Edward Lawton.

The flower girls with their attendants then made way for Plumley Rose Queen Emily Lawton.

A craft fair, inflatable ‘laser tag’, traditional stalls, tombola, plant stall, bric-a-brac and a WI cafe kept the fun going well into the afternoon, followed by a hog roast in the evening.
