Task force focus on speeding in Knutsford

TOWN councillors are to set up a task force in a bid to tackle the issue of speeding motorists in Knutsford.

Speed limits on the town’s roads have long been a bug-bear for many residents.

Roads that have caused issues in the past include Bexton Road, Legh Road and Mobberley Road.

Clr Andrew Malloy brought the issue to the attention of his fellow town councillors at a meeting of Knutsford Town Council on Monday.

“As town councillors, one of the most common issues that residents tell us about is traffic and the speed through the town,” he said.

“Over recent weeks, I’ve had a number of people speak to me about it, so I’m asking the council to go and look into the issue. We can see if we can look into any solutions.”

Clr Peter Coan asked if the matter was something that the Knutsford Local Area Partnership (LAP) already had covered.

But Clr Peter Raynes said: “It can be pursued through the LAP.

“However there are two schemes floating around – one is the community speedwatch and the other is voluntary 20mph limits, and the LAP is aware of both of these.”

Clr Raynes suggested that he and Clr Malloy work with the LAP and report back.

“I want to explore all the possibilities because I think it’s a matter that’s not being looked at,” Clr Malloy added.

Councillors voted in favour of looking into ways of resolving the problem in the town.

Call me a sceptic but one can't help but see the irony here, pots calling kettles black when some of the very councillors who 'will be looking into ways of resolving the problem', need only to look within their own four walls for culprits whom deem themselves to be above the law where speed limits and driving regulations reign. If they cannot control such within their own four walls, I personally question their ability to do so outside of them!
