Catch the train to back hourly Sunday service

11:30am Thursday 17th May 2012

KNUTSFORD people are being urged to make the most of the train this weekend as an hourly service will be running – but for one day only.

A community group has said passengers have a great opportunity to influence rail services in the area by taking the train on Sunday.

Instead of the normal trains every two hours, Northern Rail will be running an hourly train service, with the first train from Chester at 8.58am and the first train from Manchester Piccadilly at 9.22am.

Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership and Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association (MRCUA) are urging local people to catch one of these extra trains.

John Oates, chairman of MCRUA, said: “We have been long campaigning for an hourly Sunday service on the Mid Cheshire Line, so May 20 is a great time to have a day out on the train and show Northern Rail there is demand for an hourly Sunday service every Sunday.”

Sally Buttifant, Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership officer, said: “Let’s fill these extra Sunday trains and provide evidence that we need an hourly Sunday service every week not just as a one-off.

“There are rail walks, attractions and excellent pubs and cafes at every station – perfect for a day out on the Mid Cheshire Line.”
