A DRIER full of clothes that jammed, caused a fire which ripped through a house in Longridge over the weekend.
Several neighbouring properties suffered smoke damage following the blaze on Saturday, February 4.
It is believed a drier caught fire and fractured the gas main next to it.
Five fire crews – one engine from Knutsford, one from Stockton Heath, one from Northwich, one from Wilmslow and one from Holmes Chapel – were called to the terraced property on Longridge at 5.23pm on Saturday.
Crews initially believed there may be people inside the property – owned by Great Places Housing Trust – but this was not the case.
Cheshire Fire said seven firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, three main water jets and hose reel jets were used to fight the fire. Crews left the scene at 11.30pm.
One person was taken to hospital for precautionary checks for smoke inhalation but nobody was hurt.
On Twitter Jid Webb said the resident who lived in the house worked as a cleaner at the Victory Hall in Mobberley and had lost everything in the fire.
Longridge resident David Heffernan said: “The house is absolutely gutted but the fire service were absolutely fantastic on the night – they had so much to deal with apart from the fire in very difficult conditions and they deserve every bit of praise.
“I feel very sorry for the tenant though and it was just so lucky no one was hurt.”
Steve Flanagan, station manager at Knutsford Fire Station said: “A fire investigation officer attended after the incident and found that the fire had started in or around the tumble dryer.”
