THE Heath in Knutsford was a hive of activity on Saturday night as the town’s Scouts celebrated the group’s 100 years in the town.
More than 300 people, including Scouts and their parents, packed into the centre of Knutsford to mark the occasion.
The Scouting movement in Knutsford began in December 1911, so the current committee decided to hold a huge get together involving a bonfire, hog roast and sing-song. Town Mayor Clr Stewart Gardiner came along and impressed the youngsters and adults with his musical talents.
Neil McAleece from Knutsford District Scouts said: “One of the big things was that the mayor was really getting stuck in and making a great impression with the kids.
“He didn’t just come along, he came and sang and danced with the rest of us.
“It was pretty cold, but we were thankful that we had a great big fire and we were all singing and eating in traditional Scouting fashion.”
