KNUTSFORD chainsaw sculptor Tim Burgess missed out on the top prize at the English Open chainsaw carving competition.

But the artist’s ‘Dragon Breeder’ sculpture was a hit at the auction at the Tabley showground on August 29 selling for £2,000 – the third highest price.

The event, which was part of the Cheshire Game and Country Fair, saw chainsaw sculptors from all over the world compete for prizes.

Tommy Craggs, of County Durham, won first prize in the classic competition with his Alice in Wonderland chair.

Matt Crabb, of Somerset, scooped second place with the Monster chair and Bob King from America was third with Bighorn Rams.

Tim said: “It was a tremendous competition. Some of the chainsaw sculptors that competed are among the very best in the world.

“To have this sculpture competition taking place just outside Knutsford is fantastic for the whole north west.”
