YOUNGSTERS from a project aimed at helping them with the legacy of the Chernobyl explosion have enjoyed a stay in east Cheshire over the past fortnight.
Ten children from Belarus have been in the UK since August 1, enjoying a recuperative holiday in the UK.
For the past two weeks, they have been in east Cheshire, being hosted by the newly- established local branch of the Chernobyl Children’s Project (UK).
The group raised the funds needed to bring the children over, with many Knutsford residents helping with the fundraising.
Two of the children have been staying in Knutsford and enjoyed a visit to the Clay cafe where they decorated clay owls, which were glazed and fired for them to take home.
They shopped at local shops, and enjoyed choosing food in Booths, using a £10 voucher donated for the purpose.
Tatton Park provided interest and fun, and the children went swimming at the leisure centre.
The group organised frequent group activities for all 10 children, most provided free of charge by the venue.
They visited Chester Zoo, took part in a fishing competition, visited Styal Mill, went bowling, had a barbecue, attended a hog roast and had a go at archery.
Anyone who would like to help the group next year, by joining the group, hosting children, donating money or suggesting or donating activities ring Nicola on 01625 522779 or Rosemary on 01565 654383.
The next fundraising is September 8, a coffee morning and cake sale from at Gawsworth Methodist Church Hall, and live music on September 10 in Chester Cathedral.
