MORE new homes are being planned for Chelford.

Cheshire East Council approved submissions by two companies in the autumn of 2010 to build 90 homes on the Chelford Agricultural Centre in Dixon Drive and 50 dwellings on the site of the Eddie Stobart depot.

This week a further application has been submitted which could see 10 affordable homes built on a different part of the haulage firm’s site – if the authority gives the go-ahead.

Eddie Stobart wants to build four, two-bedroom properties, five, three-bed homes and one four-bed property.

The site is at the rear of Dixon Court and the village’s bowling green, and part of it is currently used as an overflow car park for the livestock market. It is also classed as green belt land.

The planning statement adds: “It has been demonstrated that the proposed affordable housing will make a significant contribution to meeting an identified need for affordable housing in Chelford – provision which is supported by the local community.

“There is no requirement to assess the impact of the affordable housing development on the openness of the green belt.

“Such is the very limited scope of the engineering operations, no material impact on the openness of the green belt will arise.

“The affordable housing element, in particular, shall respond to an identified local need and assist the building and maintaining of a sustainable community.”

This means Chelford’s population could soar over the next few years, with more than 130 new properties being built.

It is understood that 21 families have moved out of Chelford within the past five years because they could not afford to buy a home where they have grown up.
