A PUB in Mobberley will shine on the small screen on Friday as it appears in the country’s biggest soap.

The Church Inn was turned into a Lake District drinking hole which will feature in Coronation Street as part of the long-running Gail Platt storyline.

The pub, on Church Lane, was home to soap stars Jack P Shephard (David Platt) and Graeme Proctor (Craig Gazey) on Monday, February 8, as they came together to try and find a way to free Gail from jail.

Owner Stephen Bedford said the pub was a hive of activity, with more than 50 production staff heading down to the village for the one-day shoot.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to be in something like that and be seen by so many millions of people,” he said.

“The locations manager phoned up and asked if they could have the pub for a day’s shoot.

“I have done similar at other places before, so I knew we weren’t on the end of a wind-up.”

The production crew descended on the pub on Sunday evening, completely taking over the car park with equipment for the shoot, ready to start early on the Monday morning.

But Stephen said they had to make some subtle changes.

“They altered the bar around because a lot of it is down to advertising,” he added.

“As they didn’t want to be showing the make of lagers plus they moved the furniture around.

“Even though they were here for a full day, I’m not sure how long it will feature in the show.”

The episode will air at 7.30pm on Friday, March 26, but a sneak preview can be seen on the show’s website at itv.com/coronation street.
