Affordable homes plan ‘would not benefit village’

A VILLAGE’S parish council has voted against plans to build 14 affordable homes in the area.

Plumley with Toft and Bexton Parish Council decided that the plans by Sanctuary Housing Association to build homes in Trouthall Lane, Plumley, would not benefit the village.

The council came to its conclusion at its latest meeting on Wednesday last week.

The association wants to build the homes – either two or three-bedroomed properties – but has been met with opposition from some residents.

Two nights before the meeting, residents packed Plumley Village Hall to voice their concerns to the council over the plans. More than 70 people were in attendance in the hall and a vote took place, in which 64 people voting against the plans and only one for the homes.

It was noted at the public meeting, however, that 14 people had expressed an interest in the properties.

But the Guardian has since been told the parish council was given the impression that its vote against the homes would not necessarily mean the end of the potential application.

The parish council has also been summoned to a meeting with Cheshire East Council on February 16.

Sybil Crossman, chairman of the council, told the Guardian one of the main reasons for the council’s decision was that there were not enough facilities in the village at the moment for the current residents.

“From my own personal point of view, when we did a parish plan five years ago one of the main things was that people wanted a playing field,” she said.

“We haven’t got the facilities for the people in the village at the moment, and with more homes and people coming in, it would mean the balance wouldn’t be right so the parish council decided to vote against it.”
