Black Rose flower shop owner Lynne Miller urges Knutsford to take advantage of RHS Flower Show

A FLOWER shop owner this week urged Knutsford to take advantage of the RHS Show at Tatton Park.

Lynne Miller, owner of the Black Rose in King Street, said the town should benefit more from the five-day event.

But she believes some of the show’s visitors do not even know where Knutsford is.

“They think it’s a long way away,” she said.

“As soon as you start explaining, they realise it’s not that far.”

The Black Rose will be among several Knutsford businesses with exhibits at this year’s show, which starts on Wednesday July 22.

Its centre stage display in the floral design studio will be based on the neutral colours of weddings.

The Black Rose’s previous displays at the RHS have won gold and best in show.

Each year Lynne encourages people to visit the town and her shop, which runs flower-arranging workshops.

She said every business could help to promote the town.

“When the visitors do go they love the individual shops,” she said.

“They have lunch out and they buy things. They spend money in Knutsford.”

Pupils from St Vincent’s Primary School have designed a garden for this year’s RHS show.

They wanted to demonstrate how everyday objects could be put to good use.

The children collected recyclable items and turned them into plant holders, bricks, trees and mosaics.

Kris Hulewicz, show manager, said organisers were encouraging youngsters to get involved.

“It’s a great way of helping them understand and appreciate the environment around them,” he said.

“We hope to nurture the interest of young green-fingered visitors.”

Organisers of the show believe many of this year’s designs reflect the increasing interest in growing summer berries.

Displays called ‘Be Fruitful’ and ‘Home Grown’ will be among those championing strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Also, Harry Delaney, of Reaseheath College, will speak about soft fruits in the gardening in action marquee.

The RHS Show at Tatton Park takes place between July 22 and 26.

Wednesday July 22 is reserved for RHS members.

Tickets are £19 for RHS members and £22 for others in advance.
