FESTIVAL-goers at Truckfest Knutsford took advantage of free eye tests at the Vision Express ‘Vision Van’, with almost 70 per cent found in need of new prescriptions.

Vision Express targeted commercial vehicle drivers at Europe’s largest trucking event, Truckfest.

Held at the Royal Cheshire County Show, the national optical raised awareness of the importance of regular eye tests, in the face of statistics which show up to 3,000 road casualties per year are due to poor driver vision.

Most visitors – a huge 95 per cent - were overdue an eye test and 16 per cent confessed to never having had an eye test before.

The campaign comes amid a recent crackdown on poor driver sight, with police running a month-long campaign during September, supported by road safety charity Brake, and Vision Express.

It will revoke licences from any drivers stopped at the roadside who fail to read a number plate from a 20-metre distance.

Vision Express CEO Jonathan Lawson said: “It’s a huge concern that almost 70 per cent of visitors to our Vision Van at Truckfest were found to be driving without the correct prescription – especially as statistics indicate that around 3,000 road casualties every year are due to people driving with below par vision.”
