AN astonishing run which saw a Callands man cover 90km in 23 hours has raise more than £1,600 for charity.

Pete Ackerley completed the gruelling Swiss Peaks Challenge earlier this month.

The Warrington Road Runners member spent six month training for the endurance race which saw brave competitors climb 18,400 feet – the equivalent of two thirds of the way up Mount Everest.

And Pete Ackerley, associate finance director at Galliford Try Partnerships, beat his target to raise £1,600 for charity World Child Cancer.

The money will now go to support children with cancer, and their families, in nine programmes across Africa, Asia and Central America.

On completing the race Pete said: “I knew this race would be tough and after 23 hours of running I was very pleased to see the finish line.

“Knowing what this donation will mean to the charity made it all worth it; and I want to thank everyone who donated to this fantastic cause, especially my colleagues at Galliford Try Partnerships who have supported me throughout.”

“The fundraising page is still open and I would ask people to give what they can to make sure World Child Cancer can carry on their work across the globe.”

World Child Cancer is Galliford Try Partnerships’ charity for 2018 and the company has committed to raising £50,000 nationally, with the north west office, which is based in Crab Lane in Fearnhead, aiming to contribute more than £5,000.

Pete’s achievements in finishing the Swiss Peaks Challenge takes them a step closer to this goal.

You can still sponsor Pete for the achievement.
