PEOPLE are being warned not to fall for the latest scam involving fake messages from HM Revenue and Customs.

There have been a growing number of reports of threatening voicemails or automated messages being left on phones from someone pretending to be from HMRC.

The call demands money or threatens a lawsuit is being brought against you.

However, the organisation has confirmed that this is a scam and should be ignored.

If you receive such a call, you are encouraged to report it to HMRC.

You can do this by emailing phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk, or if you receive a text, forward it to 60599.

Text messages are charged at your usual network rate.
