GARDEN lovers are being invited to enjoy Dorothy and David Monks’ colourful and popular display to support East Cheshire Hospice.

The couple are opening their garden again to the public on Sunday, August 19, to help raise vital funds for the hospice.

They live at Dane Mount, 76 Middlewich Road, Holmes Chapel, CW4 7EB, and the garden will be open from 1pm to 4pm.

Dorothy and David opened their garden initially for the National Garden Scheme, and subsequently the hospice, for which they have raised thousands of pounds.

The last open day for the hospice brought in £800, and admission to this year’s open day is £3, with refreshments available at £2 for tea and cake.

One of the features of the garden is the floral decorations Dorothy creates to adorn the trees.

David is chairman of the Holmes Chapel Gooseberry Society, and organises the Holmes Chapel Onion Show, which is held in their garden on the first Saturday in September.

“We spend a lot of time in our garden, which is very colourful and is about a quarter of an acre,” said Dorothy.

“We decided to open it after everyone kept saying how lovely it was and that we should share it.

“Once we opened it people asked if we would do it again, and we have opened it about half a dozen times for the hospice.

“The lawn is starting to green up again after all the hot weather, and there are plenty of seats.

“We get a lot of local support, although we’ve also had people from Wales, and visitors can park in the school car park across the road.”
