FIREFIGHTERS took nearly 11 HOURS to tackle a large barn fire in Goostrey which started yesterday.

Teams from Wilmslow, Middlewich and Macclesfield were called shortly after 12:30pm on Tuesday, June 26, to an address in Blackden Lane, Goostrey where the barn was well alight.

The fire involved approximately 10 square metres of hay, and four water jets were used to begin tackling the blaze.

Three hours later, officers extinguished one side of the barn and used a water curtain to stop the flames from spreading as well as two hose reel jets, a main jet and a portable pump.

At this point, the fire only involved hay.

Two fire engines remained at the scene of the barn fire, dampening down the area and looking for potential hot spots, as a farmer removed hay from the barn with machinery.

Crews were still on scene and spreading the hay using a tractor since 8.45am this morning, June 27, and allowed the remaining fire to burn under the control of the farmer.

Once satisfied that the scene was safe, fire crews left at around 11am.
