A group of friends who connected through social media trekked, cycled and kayaked on the NSPCC’s Lake District Adventure Challenge.

The team were brought together through the NSPCC’s East Cheshire Special Events Facebook page instrumented by Rebecca Dennis.

She said: “I first got involved with the NSPCC about five years ago when I joined the schools service team, I wanted to go back to work after having my last child, but I wanted to do something on a voluntary basis that I could fit around my family life.

“About two years ago I was asked to join the East Cheshire special events committee.”

As part of the committee, Rebecca has brought people from her home town of Warrington, her community in Knutsford, and friends from Manchester together through social media to fundraise for the charity and take on special events.

Rebecca said: “I look after the Instagram and Facebook pages for the East Cheshire special events committee and I shared information on those about things that were going on and it went from there really. By doing it through social media it fits in with people’s lives and they can get involved in whatever way they want.

“There are people on the Facebook group who have never met before, that have become really good friends.”

As well as taking part in big events, the group Rebecca has helped set up also organise bake sales and yard sales to supplement their fundraising.

Janette Drew, NSPCC fundraising manager for East Cheshire said: “Rebecca and the efforts of the East Cheshire Special Events Lake District team are truly fantastic. Every penny raised goes towards our fight for every childhood.”
