Winner: Rucks to Eat

WINSFORD’s Rucks to Eat has come out on top as the best way to start your day.

Winner of best breakfast, the café has become a local hotspot for those seeking out the perfect fry up or an all-day breakfast.

Tucked away in Winsford industrial estate, the ideal location has made Rucks to Eat a favourite amongst lorry drivers, particularly the belly buster breakfast, which consists of three rashers of bacon, three sausages, two eggs, two hash browns, black pudding, fried tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, toast and tea.

Theresa Marsh, supervisor at Rucks, said: “Our breakfasts are so popular because they are reasonably priced and cooked fresh to order.

“The secret to our success is pleasant surroundings, good quality food and friendly, professional staff. On-site parking is also available.

“The most popular dish is the all-day breakfast and the daily special - homemade steak pie, lasagne, chilli, chicken tikka and roast dinner to name but a few.”

The café is open Monday to Saturday, with home-cooked meals prepared freshly on the premises. Keep your eyes out for new additions to the menu, too, as manager Jane is known to regularly come up with fresh food ideas.

Rucks to Eat has been running for eight years now, with part of their success down to the team’s familiarity with one another, as they used to work together at Morrisons before taking on the café.

It’s not just the breakfasts that keeps customers returning to Rucks though.

Theresa added: “We do not have a signature dish as such, but our Fish Friday is well known and very popular.”

If you can’t make it down to the café itself, they also do free delivery for orders within a one-mile radius.

The well-established café is looking to add an easy seating area for drop-in business meetings, making use of the cafe's fresh food, facilities and free wi-fi.

Highly commended: Nunhouse Sandwich Shop

Nunhouse Sandwich Shop was voted as the runner-up best breakfast in the region.

The co-owners Ann Marie and Nicola Curzon answered some questions for the Guardian about why their business is so successful.

Ann said: “We think our breakfast is so popular as it offers value for money while still providing our customers with quality food.

“We got into the industry as we believed that was a gap in the market for this type of business in the Wharton area.”

The most popular item on their menu sounds ideal for any breakfast lover.

Ann said: “Our most popular meal is our breakfast stick which contains sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms, cheese and beans on a 12-inch soft French stick.”

The owners hope to maintain a good relationship with the community in the future.

“We plan to keep providing the local community with excellent customer service and food for the foreseeable future.

"We believe that our business is so successful as we use quality ingredients and locally sourced produce.

"All our eggs come from the local market and they are free range and our bread and pies get delivered daily from a local bakery”
