SHARSTON House Nursing Home in Manor Park South, Knutsford, is hosting a coffee morning and Dementia Friends session next week as part of the town’s Dementia Action Week activities.

PCSO Courtney Nancollas, who has played a leading role in organising Knutsford Dementia Action Week, will speak about helping people to better understand the condition and the challenges people with dementia face in everyday life.

People will then be invited to show their commitment by signing up as Dementia Friends.

PCSO Nancollas will also give a talk outlining what actions are being taken to make Knutsford more dementia-friendly.

She said: “‘Dementia Action Week is not only about creating awareness of dementia but also taking positive actions to make Knutsford a more dementia-friendly town.”

Sharston House has brought forward its Sharston House Coffee Club a week to coincide with Dementia Action Week.

The coffee morning and Dementia Friends session runs from 10.30am to noon on Thursday, May 24.

Stacey Hinton, Sharston’s activities co-ordinator, said: “As a home, I think it is important to help promote dementia awareness.

“We support people living with dementia on a daily basis, and I think most people nowadays know someone or has a family member who has a form of dementia.

“It is important to understand and help that person to help them lead a fulfilled life.”

PCSO Nancollas is seeking as much support as possible to pave the way for a bid to The Alzheimer’s Society for dementia-friendly status for Knutsford.

She has signed up more than 220 Dementia Friends in the town, and wants to raise awareness of dementia among retailers to make visiting Knutsford as pleasant an experience as possible for people with the condition.

Courtney and the town’s Dementia Steering Group are planning a series of events in the town during Dementia Alliance Action Week, which runs from May 21 to 27.
