THE regional campaigns officer for the RNIB will be speaking about taking care of your eye health at a Knutsford nursing home tomorrow, Thursday.

The talk, beginning at 10.30am, will be led by Terri Balon from the Royal National Institute of Blind People, and is being held at Sharston House in Manor Park South.

The presentation will be the highlight of the Kingsley Healthcare-run home’s monthly coffee morning, the Sharston Coffee Club, which is held from 10.30am to 12.30pm on the last Thursday of every month.

Ms Balon said: “My colleague and I will be raising awareness of the four main eye conditions that can affect elderly people, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.

"We will be talking about warning signs to look out for and how best to maintain your eye health.”

She said they would also signposting people to services provided by the charity, such as their free Talking Books library and telephone counselling service.

The aim of Sharston Coffee Club is that each month there will be a speaker talking about topics of interest to older people and their families and carers – as well as an opportunity to enjoy a chat over coffee and cakes.

The event is free and everyone attending will be entered into a free prize raffle.

Nishi Gottlieb, manager at Sharston House, said inviting local people to the Sharston Coffee Club was an important way of keeping the home at the heart of the community.

Anyone who thinks they would make a good speaker in future months is asked to contact activities coordinator Stacey Hinton at the home on 01565 633022.
