MUM of four Kailey Morris has been stunned by the popularity of a rock-painting craze which is a huge hit with Holmes Chapel children.

Kailey has been amazed by the success of the Holmes Chapel Rocks Facebook page since she launched it about three weeks ago.

Children have been posting pictures of decorated rocks they have found in the village, and the page now boasts more than 300 members.

Kailey and her husband Mick run Holmes Chapel Garden Services, and Kailey bought a bag of rocks for her children to decorate after seeing the popularity of other rock-painting Facebook groups in nearby towns.

“The idea is to decorate the rocks in any way you wish, and hide them in places around the village,” said Kailey.

“The children who find them can keep them if they like them, or hide them again for someone else to find, and post a picture of themselves on the Facebook page with the rock they found.

“We’re asking children to write the words Holmes Chapel Rocks on the stone to direct the person who finds it to the Facebook page.

“The reaction to the group has been amazing. It has taken off really quickly, and has become huge – it’s a bit like an Easter egg hunt, but with rocks.

“The aim of the group is to bring the community together and encourage children to get arty and get out in the nice sunshine.

“My children have decorated between 20 and 30 rocks, and are so excited when they see that someone has found their rock.

“My son Elliot is really into cars, and we did a picture of a VW camper van on a stone, which was found four times and re-hidden.

“It’s really good fun, and even if we just nip to the shops we have to hunt round to see if we can find any rocks.

“Children are putting a lot of effort into decorating the rocks, and there are some brilliant designs.”

These are some of the comments from the Facebook page.

Emma Milward said: “We are all loving Holmes Chapel Rocks. What a wonderful idea, thank you. I love our village for this very reason. We found these ones today and relocated them.”

Samantha Platt said: “About 15 beautifully-decorated stones found this afternoon in the village. All re-hidden for others to enjoy. Fab fun.”
