DOZENS of cycling fans young and old joined The Revolution in Knutsford on Easter Monday.

The cyclists were invited to take part in a new six-mile fun ride around the town’s quiet roads, starting from Bexton Primary School.

The new route is called The Revolution, and is the brainchild of Cycle Knutsford, a 350-member community group set up with the aim to keep Knutsford a cycle-friendly town.

“We at Cycle Knutsford are very excited about the launch of the new circular route - a cycle ring road all the way round Knutsford,” said group chairman Su Russell.

“I was bowled over by the turnout on Easter Monday - for a cold, wet, miserable day we had 29 men, women, young and old turn up to launch The Revolution.

“Our youngest rider was eight years old, and loved it so much he wanted to do it again - right there and then!

“Everyone enjoyed the ride on beautiful quiet roads right around the town, enabling them to access ‘key destinations’ without coming into contact with lorries and fast traffic.

“We now need people to ride this route frequently so we can approach the council and landowners, asking them to implement some cycle infrastructure in our town.

“If you would like to ride The Revolution follow the blue arrows and check out the map.

“If you would like to ride it with someone, for fun or to learn how to ride safely on roads, then contact us, we can ride with you to work or school.

“Plus look out for our weekly rides and our next big group ride. Whatever the weather- get on your bike!”

The route started from Bexton, over the railway bridge towards the leisure centre, across Northwich Road, down Ladies Mile and towards Tatton Park.

Then it was down to The Moor, up the hill to Manor Crescent and Shaw Drive, across the dip to Longridge, and then to South Downs, Carrwood and Leicester Road, across Toft Road to Beggarmans Lane.

There were temporary signs on the route, which Su said she hoped would become permanent as Cheshire East Council had a cycling budget to help promote cycling.
