A 'pop-up pub' at the Goostrey Scout Hut and Youth Centre on Friday attracted a good turnout and raised more than £700 towards repaying the outstanding loan on the new building.

The new Scout Hut and Youth Centre was the venue for a Locals’ Evening when the Crown Inn 're-opened' for one night only at the new centre across the road, while the pub was closed for refurbishment.

Group Scout Leader of 1st Goostrey Scouts, David Giles, said: “The Locals Night on Friday proved a great success, and raised more than £700 towards repaying the loan on the hut.

"Goostrey Scouts are very grateful to the Crown for kindly organising and staffing the bar on the night, providing generous raffle prizes and donating a share of the proceeds to the Scouts.

"The pub is a good neighbour and has helped us in the past by hosting regular scout car washes in their car park and holding open mic nights to raise funds for the Scout Hut.”

Jason Camilleri, manager of the Crown Inn said: “The Crown is a strong supporter of Goostrey Scouts and has been keen to help raise funds to pay off the loan on the building.

"We were happy to help by running the bar for one night only last Friday while the Crown is being refurbished, and look forward to seeing many locals back at the Crown when the pub reopens from March 29”.

“It was great that David Giles and a group of friends sang and played live music on the night, which helped to create such a great atmosphere at the Scout Hut on Friday.”
