IT became one of the most popular places for afternoon tea, not just in Warrington but across the UK.

But now Dingle Farm in Appleton will be serving up favourites like potato cakes, Welsh rarebit and lime and ginger cake for the last time this weekend.

The tea room is closing on Monday because the owners want to turn it back into a family home.

Jane Bilton, 34, who runs the business, said: “When we first opened we only had a couple of tables and chairs inside and out.

“We didn’t realise how popular it would grow to be. It took off almost immediately, with dog walkers taking advantage of the Dingle woodland walks and people coming to enjoy our vintage china afternoon teas.

“Afternoon tea is such a quintessential British thing. It not only serves as a small social event, but as an experience to indulge, often in a quaint and tranquil setting.”

The former Bridgewater High School pupil and the team have had many highlights in those six years including being named 15th best tearoom in the country by the Sunday Times Magazine in 2015.

They have also raised more than £13,000 for charity through regular National Garden Scheme open days as well as coffee mornings in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jane added: “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved here over the past six years.

“And I would like to personally thank staff members and customers that have made it all possible.”

Jane, who did an art degree at Manchester Met, is also a professional wildlife and pet portrait artist and she will continue to work on her art commissions when Dingle Farm closes.

Visitors can make a final visit to the tea room from now until the end of the weekend.
