A 'SMILEY SID' could be installed in Northwich Road if councillors decide to proceed with the idea at a meeting on Monday.
Members of Knutsford Town Council's environmental committee are set to decide on whether to purchase the speed indication device at a cost of around £2,000.
The battery-powered, portable device shows motorists' speed as they approach it, displaying a smiley face or 'Thank You' to those within the 30mph limit and a sad face or 'Slow Down' to speeders.
Councillors are likely to opt for a portable device as it can be moved to address any future traffic problems arising from the construction of new homes in Northwich Road.
