THE Knutsford-based Toy Appeal has delivered its largest number of toys to underprivileged children following a mammoth fundraising drive.

The Toy Appeal, formed in 2013 by Dee and Chris Drake as the Lalley Toy Appeal, this year committed to filling sacks of toys for 3,000 children – a huge increase from previous years.

During the final toy sort on Monday, more than 300 volunteers – including children from Knutsford schools – helped sort, pack and load sacks ahead of delivery.

“We’re exhausted but over the moon,” said Dee. “This was a huge challenge compared to last year but we’ve done it.

“Committing to 3,000 children was a huge leap from 1,900 last year. It needed extra everything – storage, volunteers, toys and funds. But Knutsford has risen to the challenge.

“We’ve had more businesses collecting toys and more donations from the public. But what delights me the most is children helping children.

"This year, we were thrilled to have Knutsford Academy and Bexton Primary School on board, as well as Egerton Primary and Yorston Lodge Schools, who’ve been involved for the last five years.

"It makes the whole thing more magical.”

Each toy sack is individually selected and packed, and personalised for recipients across Knutsford, Cheshire and Manchester.

Chris said: “It’s a huge amount of work but when you learn of the heart-breaking lives some children lead, you’ve got to do something.

"The mission is to bring some Christmas joy to these children, who otherwise would receive nothing.”

Along with an army of volunteers, Dee and Chris especially want to thank Egerton Football Club and all drop-off points, as well as team leaders, delivery teams and those who fed the volunteers.

Work starts again in January, to raise funds in advance of Christmas 2018.
