GIRLS from the 2nd Holmes Chapel Rainbows and 1st Holmes Chapel Brownies have gained their Parliament Week badge as part of the national initiative.

Designed by Girlguiding North West to help girls learn more about Parliament and democracy through engaging activities, the badge was gained by the girls writing to MP Fiona Bruce and imaging how they would rule their very own island.

Bekky Ashmore, assistant region chief commissioner and the lead volunteer for the project, said: “This is a fantastic challenge designed by our older members for girls of all ages to take part in and put their teamwork and decision making skills to the test.

“I hope it will inspire many of them to become more engaged with Parliament and learn more about how democracy works.”

Evie Lynch, 9, said: “I had a fantastic time taking part in Girlguiding North West England’s UK Parliament Week challenge. All of the activities were really fun and have given me a better understanding of how our government works.”
