THE Deafness Support Network (DSN) has secured funding from BBC Children in Need for a further three years.
The charity, which supports deaf children, young people and their families in Knutsford and throughout Cheshire, will use the funding to continue its employment of two specialised project workers.
Providing home-based practical support to improve communication, the DSN’s work can include communication techniques, clear communication and basic sign language sessions.
Gill Reeder, pictured, DSN operations executive, said: “We’re thrilled that BBC CiN have again recognised the difference the project makes. Improving communication is important for deaf children and young people to integrate within the family.”
The ‘I’m Hear’ campaign will support deaf youngsters to find social activities and clubs they would like to attend, and project staff will provide awareness sessions to ensure inclusivity.
Pam Craige, ‘I’m Hear’ project co-ordinator, said: “Better communication reduces isolation which deaf children and young people often experience.”
