NORTHWICH’s first charity Christmas tree will be erected in Market Street.

The ‘help brighten a child’s future’ campaign has been set up by Cheshire Down’s Syndrome Support Group (CDSSG), with support from Northwich BID.

The Northwich charity is encouraging businesses and residents to get involved by sponsoring a bauble.

Hayley Simpson, marketing manager for CDSSG, said: “We are delighted to host Northwich’s very first charity Christmas tree.

“This is such a unique opportunity for local people and businesses to bring some real community spirit to the town centre during the festive season.

"By sponsoring one of our personalised baubles you will have your name twinkling upon our Christmas Tree, whilst helping to brighten a child’ s future.”

The funds raised from the ‘help brighten a child’s future’ campaign aims to help provide more support to children with Down’s syndrome in their early years to enable them to go on to live independent and fulfilling lives.

Julie Duff, chief executive of Cheshire Down’s Syndrome Support Group, said: “All children with Down’s syndrome have the opportunity to go on, live fulfilling lives and contribute to the community.

“Many children with Down’s syndrome now go through mainstream schooling and by giving them a little extra support to unlock their potential, there is no reason why they cannot go on to have careers and to live independently.”
