SCHOOLCHILDREN in east Cheshire are being given the chance to win a new iPad for their class through an SP Energy Networks competition.

The PowerWise Champions competition will see thousands of children at primary schools across the borough invited to take part in an interactive power safety lesson, before completing a drawing challenge to win the prize.

SP Energy Networks is the owner and maintainer of powerlines in east Cheshire, and has launched the free initiative to teach children about the importance of staying safe around electricity.

Schools will also be given the opportunity to nominate their own PowerWise Champion, a pupil who will be selected as their school’s power safety ambassador.

They will then pass on their power safety knowledge to friends, including how to behave in the event of a power cut.

Stephen Stewart, director at SP Energy Networks, said: “Here at SP Energy Networks we’re all enthused by power and how it affects everything around us.

“We’re proud to be able to bring our vital safety messaging into schools, sharing the importance of being prepared for a power emergency.

“There’s loads of simple steps that we can bear in mind to make sure we keep safe in a power cut.

“Hopefully our PowerWise Champions initiative will generate excitement and enthusiasm for power safety in Cheshire East. We look forward to seeing all of the entries.”

The competition closes on January 31, 2018, and more information – as well as the free curriculum-based resources – can be found at powerwise.org.uk

All competition entries should be sent by email to spnetworks@stripecommunications.com
