POLICE are holding a gun amnesty from November 13 to 26 as part of a national campaign.

All firearms, whether long-forgotten family items unregistered with police, or acquired illegally for criminal networks can be handed in.

Weapons will be examined to ensure they have not been used in criminal offences, before being deactivated and destroyed.

Insp Dave Price said: “Gun crime in Cheshire is low and that’s the way we want to keep it. By handing firearms over to us we can ensure that they are disposed of safely and don’t get into the wrong hands.”

Guns can be handed in at police stations in Northwich, Crewe, Warrington, Widnes, Macclesfield and Chester.

Anyone who suspects illegal activity involving firearms should contact Cheshire Police by calling 101.
