HUNDREDS of children have been awarded certificates at the library after completing the summer reading challenge.

The initiative, run by Cheshire East Council’s libraries including Toft Road, encourages children to keep up their reading throughout the school holidays.

Around 270 readers completed the challenge and were presented with their prizes by town mayor Cllr Neil Forbes, ward member Cllr Stewart Gardiner and Knutsford May Queen Charlotte James.

Library manager Mike Drew said: “The library works very hard to get around the schools and engage children to take part in the challenge. We are investing in people’s reading.

“The theme this year was ‘Animal Agents’, where children had to gather clues to work out who had committed a crime.

“As they worked through the challenge they got clues to identify the villain.

“In order to get the clues they used the library, and had to make at least four visits and read at least six books.

“It’s a great incentive to keep children reading through the summer, and we had 270 participants complete the challenge.”

The presentation took place at Knutsford Library on Tuesday, September 12.
