CHESHIRE East Council is proposing to increase tariffs in Knutsford car parks by 10p.

The proposal is set to go before a scrutiny committee next week ahead of a cabinet decision in October.

Knutsford’s car parks would see increases of 10p per tariff, and an increase of 20p on the most expensive tariff.

“A review has been conducted into the council’s current arrangements at its off street car parks. This has identified a number of proposed actions which it is considered would improve the way the car parks are operated and managed to support residents and businesses in the key towns in the borough.

“Parking charges have, in the main, not changed over the last 10 years or so. If charges had increased by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) since 2007 the income to the council would be £1,209,438 higher in 2016/17.

“It is estimated that annual income from pay and display parking would be increased by circa £220k per annum if the proposed parking increases are approved.”

Changing signs, at a cost of £5,000, is already budgeted for.

The decision would also see historic parking incentives, including ‘Free after 3pm’ and buy one get one free offers, removed.
