A RESIDENTS’ group representing Over ward has been formed, as opposition to the potential sale of playing field land at Higher Downs, Longridge gathers pace.

The Knutsford Residents of Over Ward group (KROW) is bidding to improve on communication between residents and the town and borough council, focusing in the first instance on Longridge.

Cheshire East Council is planning to sell the open space land, which could be used for an access road to a new local plan-approved up to 225-home development opposite the Falcon Bearer.

The issue will be discussed by Knutsford Town Council members at a meeting in the Jubilee Hall on Monday, September 18.

Debbie Jamison, a spokesman for KROW, said: “We formed the group with the aim to get transparency on all matters affecting Knutsford Over ward residents.

“We have two petitions in flow, the first being on paper to be presented to KTC on Monday. We will be asking them to present a united front with us going forward.

“The second is an online petition, and it would be a significant milestone to reach 1,000 signatures. CEC would then have to send a senior officer to a public meeting.

“If we all work together, we can deliver the housing and the community investment that will benefit residents, both existing and new.

“We have to be strong, not in opposing the housing but in protecting what we have already got.”
