A MUM cannot afford to send her son to school because Cheshire East Council do not supply free travel to faith schools.

Angela Lees, from Pennymoor Drive, had an application for free transport rejected because the borough council ‘no longer provides travel assistance for children attending denominational schools.’

The 52-year-old needs a free bus pass so that her son Logan Stephen can get from Middlewich to St Nicholas High School in Hartford.

She is from a low income background and also cares for her other son full-time.

Angela said: “I find the situation ridiculous.

“I don’t understand why he wouldn’t be entitled to the bus pass but we need it so that he can attend. There’s no other way around it.

“He’s received his school meals without a problem but now he can’t get to school in the morning.

“If we don’t win the appeal then I can’t afford to send Logan Stephen to school and I’m going to have to look at moving him.

“I’m a carer for my other son so I don’t have the time or money to get him to and from school every day.”

Angela chose St Nicholas because it was the parent school to St Marys in Middlewich.

She added: “Starting high school is difficult enough as it is so I wanted him to be with all his friends and make it easier to settle in.

“It’s put me in a really difficult position and he’s absolutely devastated at the prospect of having to move.

“We were told about the decision a week before he started so we haven’t had much time to sort out the problem.”

At the time of writing Angela was appealing the decision and borrowing money from a friend so Logan Stephen could attend school.

CEC were contacted but declined to comment.
