A MAN that was killed after being hit by a train in Holmes Chapel has been confirmed as a 64-year-old from Sandbach.
Emergency services – including an air ambulance – were called to Holmes Chapel railway station just before 12.30pm on Monday following reports that two people had been struck by a train.
The British Transport Police confirmed to the Guardian today that the man, who died as a result of his injuries, was a 64-year-old from Sandbach.
The woman, who is currently being treated in hospital after suffering ‘life-changing’ injuries, is in her 60s.
The incident is being described by police as ‘unexplained’.
A police investigation is currently ongoing.
In a statement released on Monday evening, a spokesman for the BTP said: “BTP officers were called to the station at 12.27pm to reports of two people having been struck by a train.
“A man and a woman were taken to hospital.
“Sadly, the man has passed away from his injuries.
“The woman remains in hospital with life-changing injuries.
“Their next of kin have been informed.
“The incident is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are working to establish the circumstances of what happened.”
