A HOLMES Chapel based ground survey firm has won a prestigious industry award.

Dunelm Geotechnical and Environmental carries out geotechnical and environmental investigations ranging from small-scale residential developments to large commercial and industrial developments.

The firm was awarded the Ground Investigation Project at the 2017 Ground Engineering Magazine Awards.

Sam Fishburne, the firm's North West regional manager said: "Not only did we open a new office in Holmes Chapel this year, we were also successful at the recent magazine awards, winning the project for our work on Milburngate House, Durham."

Formed in 1966, the North East firm celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and decided that with the momentum generated by the Northern Powerhouse initiative, a new North West office seemed the only logical choice

Sam, who lives in Knutsford, explains: "With nearly twenty years experience in the geotechnical sector I was brought in to set up and run the new office which opened its doors at the end of February.

"We now have two full time engineers and are actively seeking to recruit a third with a view to take the successes we have achieved in the North East and replicate it from our new offices in Holmes Chapel."

The firm carries out investigations to assess the physical properties of the underlying soils and rock and has experience in numerous geotechnical areas including residential and industrial developments, road and railway work, pipelines, sewers, earthworks projects, slope stability, tunneling and treatment and assessment of shallow mine workings.

Claire Smith editor of Ground Engineering added: "This year's winner's clearly demonstrate how the UK geotechnics industry is evolving through greater innovation and emerging technology to deliver new levels of engineering excellence while still providing value and sustainable solutions.”
