CHESHIRE East Council mayor Cllr Arthur Moran was guest of honour as the heritage centre unveiled its new ‘Knutsford Means Business’ exhibition.

Running until December 16, the exhibition tells the story of businesses and properties past and present.

A range of artefacts are on display at the King Street centre, with The Courtyard café, Arthur Lee Interiors, Nationwide, Stuart Rushton, and Weightmans law firm among those involved.

Val Bryant, heritage centre director and trustee, said: “Knutsford has more than 100 listed buildings. Many are business premises.

"They all have a story to tell – and Knutsford Heritage Centre is the natural place to tell it.

"Many families that previously owned companies which are no longer trading have entrusted documents, photographs and memorabilia for conservation in our archives.

"People are interested in these for a variety of reasons.

“Our aim is to make exhibitions of this kind a regular event. Our present exhibition is already attracting visitors intrigued to know more about the town in which they live.

"Children doing school projects, or who are just plain curious, will also find the exhibition highly informative.

“The heritage centre is integral to Knutsford’s cultural fabric. Businesses – present and past – are as important to the town as it people, and that is precisely what the exhibition celebrates.”

Deputy Knutsford mayor Cllr Peter Coan and May Queen Charlotte James also attended.
