KNUTSFORD will be featured in an upcoming exhibition of colourful retro railway posters, promoting the attractions that lie beyond the mid Cheshire line’s tracks.

The town, whose station is a gateway to hotspots such as Tatton Park and Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford, will be one of 14 immortalised in 1930s-style print and displayed at the Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich.

Produced by the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership and designed by Lemondrop Creative’s Nicky Thompson, the posters are intended to evoke the Golden Age of British travel among Cheshire’s residents and visitors alike.

Knutsford’s poster features the Gaskell Memorial Tower and King Street’s famous bunting.

Sally Buttifant, MCCRP officer, said: “It is easy when you’re on a train not to appreciate what lies just beyond the station.

“We hope this poster campaign will open people’s eyes and encourage them to step off the train and explore – just like the visitors did in the 1930s.

“Each station will feature its bright new poster and we hope commuters and rail goers will be interested and pleased by these colourful additions to the stations.”

The posters, made up of strikingly blocky, vibrant colours, are inspired by the pioneering work of Frank Henry Mason.

Posters will be available for purchase at the Lion Salt Works Museum in A3 and A2 size for £5 and £10, respectively.

Postcards sets will also be available for 12 of the 14 posters. Attractions across the region wishing to stock posters and postcards should call Sally on 01244 976788 or 0773 6523863.

The exhibition will run from August 8 to September 3. Other destinations include Altrincham, Delamere, Northwich, Hale and Chester Zoo.
