THE inaugural Canute Kids Duathlon has been hailed a great success, with more than 120 participants enjoying the race.

Children aged between three and 11 took part in the run-bike-run event at Egerton Youth Club on Sunday, July 16.

With three events running for different age groups, all participants were awarded a medal, a goodie bag and fruit from Alan’s Fruit and Veg as they crossed the finish line. The event also raised more than £250 for Cystic Fibrosis and Egerton Youth Club.

Imogen McDermot was the lucky winner of a new super-light Dawes Academy bike, donated by Bikes ‘n’ Gear.

Organiser Vicky McKinnon said: “The whole morning was really inspiring and we have had so much positive feedback from parents which makes all of the hard work worthwhile.

“We are so grateful for everybody’s support. So many parents commented on how brilliant the marshals were and how smoothly everything ran, which is testament to their hard work and positive attitude.”

Vicky also thanked businesses for their ‘enthusiasm and engagement’ in backing the event. Knutsford Heritage Centre designed the logo, with financial planning company Smart Financial contributed towards running costs.

Organisers included volunteers from Egerton Football Club, Run Knutsford and Knutsford Triathlon Club, as well as friends and family.

An adults event will take place at Tatton Park on April 29, 2018.
