KNUTSFORD'S long-promised half-hourly train service to Chester could be 'compromised' as part of new Northern proposals, a town councillor says.

With the rail operator consulting on a new timetable for May 2018, the two weekday trains per hour are scheduled to run 17 minutes and then 43 minutes apart - ie trains on the hour and then at 17 minutes past.

One of the trains is also set to stop at Greenbank, meaning Knutsford travellers would have to alight and wait 24 minutes for the next Chester service.

Proposals also include doubling the Sunday Chester service to hourly.

Cllr Andrew Malloy said: "There has been a meeting between the Community Rail Partnership, Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association (MCRUA), and the planners at Northern.

"This is not the final product, and the groups would prefer that it is closer to half-hourly.

"It's going the right way. We are getting the hourly on Sunday and two per hour on weekdays, but it's just not quite where we want it to be."

Cllrs Malloy and Tony Dean will meet with CRA and MCRUA to put together an official consultation response.
