A LECTURER from South Cheshire College has won a special award in a national competition.

Selected from thousands of nominations, Shane Guildford, from Crewe, Lecturer in Hospitality and Catering at South Cheshire College was one of just 56 winners to be recognised on Thank a Teacher Day on June 16.

The Pearson Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, created to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach.

Jasbir Dhesi, principal at South and West Cheshire College, said: “Shane innovatively uses technology to inspire and engage learners here at college. Through his creativity, he ensures that learners are given the best opportunity to progress both in and outside the classroom environment. His willingness to continually go above and beyond and his drive and desire to give his learners the most fantastic learning experience is truly inspirational.”

Shane will now join fellow Silver Award winners at the UK final of the Pearson Teaching Awards, a glittering ceremony held in central London on October 22.

There, they will find out which of them has won one of just 11 Gold Plato Awards, the UK’s “Oscars for Teachers”.

Shane said: “I feel completely honoured and privileged to be receiving this award.

"A couple of years ago I was given the opportunity by my manager to champion the use of technology in the classroom and we have never looked back.

"I would like to thank my family, managers, colleagues and students for their support and I would like to dedicate this award to the whole team since that is what we are - a team!”
