TOM Forster has been rewarded for his form at the crease for Toft during the campaign’s early stages with a call from Cheshire’s selectors.

He will make his senior debut at Brockhampton tomorrow, Sunday, when they take on Herefordshire in a three-day Unicorns Championship opener.

“He got a call on Thursday night,” said Toby Drummond, captain at Booth’s Park.

Forster, who moved to the Knutsford club from North Staffs and South Cheshire League side Betley over the winter, has been key performer as Toft have risen to the Cheshire County League summit.

Before the start of Saturday’s meeting with Nantwich, he had scored 227 runs – at an average of 38 – in six Premier Division matches.

He passed 50 on two occasions and only Rob Jones, a professional at Lancashire, has been more prolific to date.

Forster opened the batting for Cheshire’s Academy during a five-wicket defeat against their Staffordshire counterparts in a T20 Challenge last week.

He later took 3-16 off four overs.

With 11 wickets, he has been Toft’s most prolific bowler this term too.

Drummond said: “He came to us as an opening batsman, but by his own admission he didn’t bowl as much as he possibly could have done for his previous club.

“We’ve seen already that he can be useful for us. As captain, it’s great for me to have people who can bat and bowl.”

He is one of five players who will make their debut for Cheshire this weekend.

Batsmen Will Evans (Neston) and Luke Robinson (Nantwich), all-rounder Wayne White (Leek) and seamer Ollie Freckingham (Nantwich) are in the side too.

Three of those – Evans, White and Freckingham – have already helped Cheshire to reach the quarter finals of the Unicorns Knockout Trophy this term.

Play starts tomorrow at 11am.
