SCIENCE mad youngsters are being urged to head down to Jodrell Bank this half term for a week of fun.

'Amazed by Science' is the annual celebration of science and technology, which features a packed programme of shows, Q&A sessions, games and activities.

And children heading to this year's festival, being held between May 29 and June 2, will be eligible to a free day ticket for this summer's bluedot music festival held at the site.

The highlight of the upcoming half term programme looks set to be the Discovery Centre’s new live science show exploring the science behind magic and illusions.

The shows take place daily from Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 2 at 11am, noon and 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, the popular Q&A sessions 'Meet the Expert' are back too and will be taking place daily (May 30 to June 2) at 1pm where families will have the opportunity to quiz professional scientists about their work.

The Discovery Centre will also be running a new activity created especially for the under 7s.

The Tiny Space Explorers Tour takes in the site’s gardens and arboretum and will explore the ‘alien’ flora and fauna on the Jodrell Bank site.

Siemens will be at the Discovery Centre during half term too, returning with their interactive games pods where visitors can learn, explore, and experience science, technology, engineering and maths in action.

And finally, the Discovery Centre will also be welcoming the return of the Cheshire Beekeepers Association.

The Beekeepers will be on site from May 30 to June 2 with their stand and they’ll be hosting live beekeeping demonstrations daily at 2pm.

Kids can also take part in the Bee Backpacks trail, exploring the gardens and carrying out bee-themed activities along the way.

Meanwhile, the visitor facilities include interactive displays and exhibits which explain how the telescope works and what its looking for.

The site also has 35 acres of gardens and arboretum, a playground and picnic area, café, gift shop, and free parking.

General admission starts from £5 (child) and £6.80 (adults).

Discounts are available for families, students, and the over 60s. Under 4s go free.
