REPAIRS to the King Canute mosaic at the top of Heritage Way are set to commence today.

The cobbles on the mosaic, which has been in place since 1995, will be reset to ensure it does not deteriorate due to the increased use of the road.

Work is expected to take three days, with the entrance to Heritage Way - off Tatton Street next to The Old Sessions House - set to be closed off.

A letter from the town council to business owners said: "We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience but I am sure you will understand the necessity of these works and that they will help preserve an important feature of our town centre.

"After the works have taken place, anything you can do to help preserve this mosaic would be greatly appreciated. This could include minimising the number of traffic movements across the mosaic and seeking to prevent the use of the area by large vehicles."

The repairs are being funded jointly by Tatton Estate Management and the town council.
